Blacksmithing has a long and very interesting history from the early days of horseshoeing to being “Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree” come and learn the basics that you can learn in a two-day class. No, you won’t be a blacksmith when the class is over but you will have ample opportunity to see if this hobby is for you without the financial investment of a blacksmith shop. Class size limited to 6

During the time that fighting men wore Chain mail it was the best protection against cuts and slashes. The most popular pattern was the English 4 in 1 pattern. Learn the basics of making chain mail, and you too could be next person to make armor for your self or friends. The Mandrel is included. Class size limited to 6

May 8 & 15 8am to 4:30pm Beginning Tablet Weaving
KC RenFest Booth 651
This is a relaxed, hands-on workshop for beginners, covering basic tablet weaving techniques. I will show you how to string up a loom and try out a few basic techniques. During the two-session class you will choose a project to make in class -- a sample band, a set of bookmarks, or a tubular neckpiece. No previous weaving experience needed. The loom and all supplies will included in the class price.

May 8 8:30am to 4:30pm Lucet Braiding Class
KC RenFest Booth 651
This class we'll use a Lucet, a tool believed to date back to the Viking and Medieval period, to make cords (braids) that can be used to trim clothing, to make jewelry, as drawstrings, or as square, strong, & slightly stretchy rope. Lucet and materials included.

*Classes will be by reservation only. Fees include any materials needed and two lunchtime meals. A $25 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve class space
