Blacksmithing has a long and very interesting history from the early days of horseshoeing to being “Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree” come and learn the basics that you can learn in a two-day class. No, you won’t be a blacksmith when the class is over but you will have ample opportunity to see if this hobby is for you without the financial investment of a blacksmith shop. Class size limited to 6

During the time that fighting men wore Chain mail it was the best protection against cuts and slashes. The most popular pattern was the English 4 in 1 pattern. Learn the basics of making chain mail, and you too could be next person to make armor for your self or friends. The Mandrel is included. Class size limited to 6

Card weaving, also known as tablet weaving, is a method of producing narrow textiles such as straps, belts and trim. Some popular uses of tablet woven ribbons include lacing cords, hair decorations, purse strings, scroll tags, etc. It also makes lovely ribbon to use as trim on clothing. This class is two sessions long. In the first session, students will learn how to make a basic tablet woven band. During the second session, students will learn the beginnings of more advanced techniques of tablet weaving. All materials, including a loom are provided in the cost of the course. Class size limited to 6

October 30 & November 6 8am to 4:30pm Tri-Angle Loom Adult/Beginning

In the class you are taught the basics of the tri- loom: How to start on the loom, tension of the fibers, how the loom works as you weave from the outside in, how to come off the loom, care of your project. Upon completeion of the class you have a finished project, instructions, and leave with a 7 foot loom and tripod. The loom and all supplies are included in the class price.

The class will start with a discussion of types of stone, carving tools, and carving techniques. Tools and stone are included in the class fee. Students should bring gloves, and safety glasses, and dress for outside weather. Stone Carving tool kit and materials included.

October 30 8:30am to 4:30pm Lucet Braiding Class
KC RenFest Booth 651
This class we'll use a Lucet, a tool believed to date back to the Viking and Medieval period, to make cords (braids) that can be used to trim clothing, to make jewelry, as drawstrings, or as square, strong, & slightly stretchy rope. Lucet and materials included.

This class will build a portable shaving horse similar in design to the one Roy Underhill makes. You will be making this horse out of 2 X 12's and all materials and a drawknife are included.
